Bangalore-based Vikram Sampath, an eminent researcher on the gramophone and its impact on Indian music, has sold the rights of his 2010 book “My Name Is Gauhar Jaan” to Ashutosh Gowariker. Gauhar Jaan was India’s first recorded artiste and was of Armenian-Christian descent who later converted to Islam.
